Industrial sheds, fencing and a riverfront walkway encroach on the Turag River beyond the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority’s boundary pillars at Boro Deora in Gazipur’s Tongi. A 2009 High Court verdict directed the government to demarcate the river’s boundaries before any walkway was constructed. However, BIWTA itself went on to build the walkway in violation of the order.
