A case has been filed with Dhanmondi Police Station following a large-scale attack and vandalism at Chhayanaut Sanskriti Bhaban.

Chhayanaut Manager Dulal Ghosh filed the case yesterday, accusing 300 to 350 unidentified individuals, police said.

Confirming the matter, Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said the case was lodged over vandalism, looting and an attempted arson attack at the cultural institution.

According to a statement issued by Chhayanaut, a group of people forcibly entered the six-storey Chhayanaut Sanskriti Bhaban late Thursday night and carried out widespread vandalism and looting. The attackers also attempted to set parts of the building on fire.

The statement, signed by Chhayanaut President Sarwar Ali and General Secretary Laisa Ahmed Lisa, said that almost all rooms of the building, including auditoriums and offices, were damaged. All CCTV cameras were destroyed during the attack.

Musical instruments, computers and furniture were vandalised, while some instruments, furniture and servers were set on fire. At least seven laptops, several mobile phones and multiple hard drives were looted. Electrical connections and equipment were also severely damaged.

Police said an investigation is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.
