The government will re-inspect Ad-din Medical College Hospital as the hospital authorities have made some changes to the structure, said Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain yesterday.

If the new inspection finds the hospital feasible, the government may take an appropriate decision, he told reporters while briefing the media on the government’s health preparations for the flood-affected areas in Chattogram division.

The Directorate General of Health Services last month cancelled the licence of the hospital located in the capital’s Moghbazar area following an inspection that revealed gross negligence and mismanagement tied to the deaths of six newborns on May 27.

Since then, the hospital authorities have begun making changes to the building: they have already removed the bakery from the rooftop and created space for proper ventilation.

Meanwhile, the health authorities have taken all necessary preparations to provide healthcare services to people affected by the floods in Chattogram division.

The health authorities have already formed medical teams and supplied the necessary medicines, particularly anti-venom, to the affected areas, Sardar said.

As many as 95 people have been hospitalised after being bitten by snakes, said Health Secretary Quamruzzaman Chowdhury. All of them have recovered.
