The process of repatriating the body of Bangladeshi PhD student Zamil Limon from Florida to Bangladesh is likely to be completed within a day or two.
Golam Mortoza, press minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, shared the information in a Facebook post yesterday.
He said police had handed over Limon’s body to funeral authorities in Tampa (South Florida).
The decision was made following discussions between the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami, the Bangladeshi community, and in coordination with the University of South Florida, he said.
Prior to the handover, the consulate obtained consent from Limon’s family, he added.
All subsequent procedures will be carried out in accordance with Islamic rites.
On Friday, after he had been missing for eight days, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the University of South Florida (USF) doctoral student had been found dead.
Zamil and another Bangladeshi doctoral student, Nahida Bristy, had been reported missing since April 16. While Limon’s body was recovered from the Howard Frankland Bridge, Bristy’s body is yet to be recovered.
