When Pep Guardiola arrived at Manchester City in 2016, the Spaniard was already a decorated coach, having won top honours at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. 

Following his announcement on Friday that he will depart the club after a trophy-laden decade, he is set to leave a transformative mark on English football.

Over 10 years, Guardiola has guided City to 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club’s maiden Champions League, and will be remembered as a manager whose blueprint and methods inspired coaches across the league.

The final showcase of his philosophy at the Etihad Stadium will come on Sunday, when City host Aston Villa in the season’s closing game.

“I came for three years and said we will see what happens. The rest is history,” Guardiola said at a presser yesterday. Indeed, since he arrived at Manchester, it has truly been historic.
