Bangladesh women’s futsal team returned home on Thursday evening to a warm reception after clinching the title in the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship in Bangkok.
The champions landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 6:15pm on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, carrying with them the trophy from a historic and unbeaten campaign. Players and officials were greeted by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) representatives, officials and well-wishers, marking a proud moment for the country’s women’s football.
Led by captain Sabina Khatun, Bangladesh dominated the seven-team tournament, finishing as clear champions without suffering a single defeat. Their consistent performances throughout the competition underlined the growing strength of women’s football in Bangladesh and highlighted the team’s adaptability in the fast-paced futsal format.
The title marks Bangladesh’s first major success in women’s futsal at the regional level and adds another milestone to the nation’s recent achievements in women’s football. Several players impressed with their technical skills, discipline and teamwork, drawing praise from fans and officials alike.
To celebrate the historic triumph, the BFF has decided to accord the team a formal reception. Federation officials said the achievement reflects the progress being made through sustained investment in women’s football and expressed hope that the success would inspire greater participation at the grassroots level.
Speaking earlier after the final, team officials credited the players’ commitment and unity for the title win, while captain Sabina described the victory as “special” for the entire nation.
With the trophy now home, attention will turn to building on this momentum as Bangladesh look to strengthen their presence in futsal and football across South Asia, using the championship success as a foundation for future international competitions.
