Gallery Bhumi is organising a group art exhibition titled One Square Stories, aiming to create art collectors and promote artwork as gift items, which is under way at Lalmatia in the capital.

Curated by Saifur Rahman Lenin, founder and chief executive officer of Bhumi Gallery, this month long exhibition features 100 paintings created on one-square-foot canvas by 20 renowned contemporary artists.

The exhibition was inaugurated by eminent artist Rafiqun Nabi on Friday, while artist professor Mohammad Eunus, United Group adviser Akhter Mahmud Rana and artist Nisar Hossain spoke at the opening ceremony.

Rafiqun Nabi said that artists work soulfully where canvas size does not vary while these small size canvases portray stories of time, thought and expressions.

He also said that artworks can be displayed at any place, not only at drawing rooms or galleries, and these small size artworks are space friendly.

Akhter Mahmud Rana said that exhibitions should be held at educational institutions which can help develop children’s imaginations and cultural awareness.

Nisar Hossain said that besides lifestyle costs, art materials also became costly and artists need financial support.

The artworks depicted landscapes, nature, floral motifs, urban and old-town architecture, Bangladeshi culture and tradition, Sundarbans and still life created by artists including Mohammad Eunus, Jamal Ahmed, Ranjit Das, Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Mohammad Iqbal and Shaila Akhter.

The exhibition will end on March 14.
