Activists stages temporary protest in front of Aziz Supermarket
Inquilab Moncho reinstated its blockade at the Shahbagh intersection this afternoon following the departure of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who visited the grave of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi.
The protesters, who have been holding a sit-in at Shahbagh since yesterday, remained at the intersection overnight.
They temporarily left the intersection allowing Tarique to visit Hadi's grave in Dhaka University area. They moved to in front of Aziz Supermarket to facilitate his movement.
Around 12:40pm, they moved back to Shahbagh, bringing vehicular movement at the busy intersection to a standstill.
Inqilab Moncho has vowed to continue its Shahbagh blockade programme until those responsible for the killing of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi are brought to justice.
Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber said yesterday that the state had failed to ensure justice over the murder. He demanded that all government advisers come to Shahbagh and publicly explain the steps taken to bring the perpetrators to account.
Women and children were among those participating in the sit-in, alongside people from various professions.
Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Moncho and a prominent figure of the July uprising, was shot on December 12, a day after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the next national election. He was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he died on the night of December 18.
His death has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for swift and exemplary punishment of those responsible.
