A murder case has been filed after a 40-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death outside his house in Dhaka's Bhashantek area early yesterday.

The victim, Kausar Molla, was attacked around 1:00am and died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) around 4:30am.

His wife, Mosammat Suma, filed the case against several unidentified people with Bhashantek Police Station last night, said Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhashantek Police Station.

According to the case statement, a group of assailants called Kausar out of his house around Friday midnight and took him to the front of Momin Khan's rickshaw garage at the end of Sobhan Road in the 3 No Dhamalkot area, where they severely beat him.

Locals rescued him in a critical condition and rushed him to Nitor. Doctors found both of his legs broken, a deep cut on his head, and multiple injury marks on different parts of his body. He later died while undergoing treatment.

The OC told The Daily Star today that police have yet to identify the attackers or establish a motive, but investigators suspect previous enmity may have been behind the killing.

He added that Kausar had been accused in 10 cases on charges including theft, drug peddling and possession of explosives.
