An 11-month-old girl died after falling into a water-filled bucket at her home in Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona yesterday morning.

The deceased, Nadia Akhter, was the only daughter of Nabab Mia and Shova Akhter, said Md Siddiq Hossain, OC of Kalmakanda Police Station.

Family members and police said that around 7:00am, the baby fell into a bucket in her room while playing as her mother was in the kitchen preparing breakfast.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the duty doctor declared her dead.

As the family lodged no complaint, the body was handed over to them without a post-mortem, the OC added.

Meanwhile, two children drowned in a pond in Roumari upazila of Kurigram the same day. The deceased are Shahbab Mondol, 2, son of Shahjahan Mondol of Kortimari, and Abu Toha Mondol, 3, son of Abu Taleb Mondol of Digholapara village.

Family and locals said the children fell into a nearby pond while playing in the yard. They were declared dead at a hospital on arrival.

Roumari Police Station Sub-Inspector Shahnewaj Ali said an unnatural death case was filed.
