Police today arrested four people, including a woman, in a case filed over the rape of a 22-year-old woman in Chattogram city’s EPZ area.
The arrestees are Aprumong Marma, 26; Thuaiching Marma, 29; Othaienu Marma, 30; and their female friend Okraiju Marma, 24 -- all from Rangamati district, said police.
They were arrested early Friday after the victim filed a complaint with EPZ Police Station on Thursday night against the four individuals, said EPZ Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atiqur Rahman.
Quoting the case statement, he told The Daily Star that the victim, a Chakma woman, also from Rangamati, works at a garment factory in the CEPZ area and lives in a rented house near Barrister College with some of her female colleagues.
On April 10, a male friend from Feni came for medical treatment and stayed in her room. Annoyed by the matter, her roommate Okraiju complained to her associate, Othaienu.
According to the case details, the victim was taken to a rented flat in the area on the night of April 19, where the three male arrestees allegedly verbally abused her for bringing her boyfriend to an all-female dormitory before raping her, the OC said.
After the incident, the accused went into hiding.
Following the victim’s complaint, a police team conducted drives and arrested four suspects from different rented houses in the area.
The victim was sent to CMCH One-Stop Crisis Centre for medical examination.
More details can be known after investigation, the OC added.
