At least 33 more Middle Eastern flights were cancelled to and from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday, raising the total number of flights cancelled to 335 so far since February 28.

The flights were cancelled due to the closure of airspaces by Iran, Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan since February 28, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.


Meanwhile, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines in a release on Monday announced that they had suspended flight operations from and to Doha, Sharjah, Kuwait, Dammam for an indefinite period until issuing further notice.

Biman, however, said that Dubai and Abu Dhabi routes flight would remain cancelled till March 10.

Gulf Arab countries are major destinations for Bangladeshi migrant workers while hundreds of such workers were stranded at both sides and suffered immensely due to the flights cancellation.

A total of 23 flights were cancelled on February 28, 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, 39 on March 3, 28 on March 4, 36 on March 5, 34 on March 6, 28 on March 7, 28 on March 8 and 33 on March 9.

Of the flights cancelled on Monday, four belonged to Qatar Airways, two to Kuwait Airways, six to Air Arabia, four to Emirates, two to Jazeera Airways, two to Gulf Air, four to Fly Dubai, three to Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and four belonged to US Bangla Airlines, according to CAAB officials.
