Leader of the Opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that constituencies represented by ruling party lawmakers were receiving grants and development assistance while those represented by opposition MPs were being deprived of similar support.

"Various small grants and assistance have been provided to constituencies represented by members of the current ruling party. However, similar support has not been extended to constituencies represented by opposition lawmakers. We are observing this kind of disparity with deep concern," he said while speaking to journalists before attending a party conference in Netrokona today.

"I do not know how long this government will remain in office, but we have already noticed certain signs. As you have seen, we have raised our concerns and objections at the parliament," he added.

Highlighting the principles of equality and accountability in governance, Shafiqur said those in government were responsible for every part of the country and every citizen.

"They are not accountable only to particular individuals, groups, political party, or region; rather, they are responsible for the entire nation. We have repeatedly emphasised this point and will continue to do so. Wherever we see discrimination, we will raise our voices in protest," he said.

The Jamaat chief said differences between the ruling party and the opposition should not take precedence over the country's development.

The press briefing was chaired by Maulana Sadeq Ahmed Haris, ameer of Netrokona district Jamaat-e-Islami, and attended by district and central leaders of the party.
