A delegation of opposition MPs and the Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad, Md Nurul Islam, held an important discussion on the current political context of the country and the goal of establishing a “consensus government”.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed and fruitful discussions on establishing a “consensus government” in the current political context of the country, the parliament secretariat said in a release today.
Both sides also stressed the need to make parliamentary activities more dynamic and participatory in the national interest.
The courtesy meeting was held at the Chief Whip’s office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Monday. The four-member delegation of opposition MPs was led by Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam.
Other members of the delegation were Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami MPs Md Rafiqul Islam Khan, Nurul Islam, and NCP MP Md Abul Hasnat.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam said the government formed by the BNP under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was committed to ensuring effective participation of the opposition in all parliamentary activities.
He expressed hope that the meeting with the opposition chief whip would play an important role in making parliament more vibrant.
