The BNP reported an income of Tk 22.19 crore and expenditure of Tk 15.26 crore in 2025, leaving a surplus of Tk 6.93 crore, according to its audited financial statement submitted to the Election Commission (EC) today.
A BNP delegation submitted the party's annual audit report for 2025 to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the commission's headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party currently holds assets worth Tk 28.07 crore, including Tk 28.04 crore in bank deposits and Tk 2.79 lakh in cash. The party's opening balance at the beginning of the year [2026] was Tk 21.13 crore.
Rizvi said the accounts were submitted in compliance with legal requirements, adding that the process promotes accountability in democratic politics.
"People should know how a political party elected by their votes is run, its sources of income, and where the money is spent," he said.
Responding to questions about Awami League leaders contesting the upcoming local government elections, Rizvi said the polls would be non-partisan and held without party symbols.
"Who will contest and who will not is a matter for the courts and the Election Commission. They will decide in accordance with the law," he said.
Asked about Jamaat-e-Islami's request to the EC to bar Awami League leaders from contesting, Rizvi said the authority to determine candidates' eligibility rests solely with the Election Commission under existing laws.
On BNP's candidate selection for the local government elections, he said the party's highest policy-making body would decide the nomination process, adding that no decision had yet been taken.
Regarding the party's next national council, Rizvi said the chairman and secretary general had discussed the matter, but the date had not yet been finalised.
BNP Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat said the party's income came from members' subscriptions, donations from individuals and well-wishers, and the sale of nomination forms.
He said expenditure included organisational activities, political programmes, vehicle purchases, printing campaign materials, maintenance of central and local offices, staff salaries, and financial assistance for needy party workers.
Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), all registered political parties are required to submit audited accounts for the previous calendar year to the EC by July 31. Failure to do so for three consecutive years may result in the cancellation of a party's registration.
