Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal–JSD president ASM Abdur Rob on Wednesday said that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government’s move to ignore the referendum verdict on the July National Charter could create dangerous political consequences in the country.

The JSD leader, in a press statement, said that most political parties had supported the July National Charter and that people had endorsed its implementation in the February 12 referendum.

He said that the people had given their verdict in favour of bringing radical changes to the country’s governing system.

According to him, the decision to implement the charter was taken following the July 2024 uprising by students and the public.

He warned that ignoring the charter would amount to a betrayal of the social contract and could create a political crisis.

Rob called on the government to implement the July National Charter in line with the referendum results.
