A woman went missing after a passenger boat capsized in the Karnaphuli river during a sudden storm in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram today.

The missing woman was identified as Konika Das, 22. She got married one year ago, police said quoting family members.

Balayet Hossain, assistant superintendent of police (Rangunia Circle), told The Daily Star that the boat, carrying several passengers from Kodala union in Rangunia, was heading towards Chandraghona.

When the boat reached near Dewanji Ghat around 11:30am, it was hit by a sudden storm accompanied by heavy rain and capsized.

People on nearby boats managed to rescue the passengers except Konika, he said.

On information, a fire service team launched a rescue operation to locate the missing woman, Balayet added.
