Bangladesh secured a 2-0 win over Chinese Taipei in their Pool B second match of the Women’s U18 Asia Cup at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Hockey Stadium in Kakamigahara, Japan on Tuesday.
Kona Akter opened the account for Bangladesh by scoring from penalty corner in the 29th minute before Airin Riya scored from open field in the 55th minute for their first win in this eight-team tournament.
With the day’s win, Bangladesh kept their semi-final hopes alive as they take on China in their third and final pool match today.
Bangladesh earned three points from two games to place third in the four-team pool as they earlier suffered a crushing 12-0 defeat to Japan in their opening match on May 30.
As the top two teams from each pool of the tournament will advance to the semi-finals, Japan and China are in strong position with placing first and second in the pool with equal four points from their two outings, respectively.
