A Cumilla court has ordered DNA tests for two more individuals in connection with the much-discussed murder investigation of Sohagi Jahan Tonu.

Although the order was issued on July 16 by Senior Assistant Judicial Magistrate Mominul Haque of the Cumilla Sadar Court, the matter was confirmed by the inspector at the office of the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Cumilla, Sadequr Rahman, today.

The two individuals are former army personnel Zahidul Islam, 41, from Meghai village in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district, and Faisal Ahmed Rabbi, 32, from Lakkhinagar-Rajapur area under Cumilla Sadar South upazila.

According to court documents, the order was issued following a petition by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Tarikul Islam, the investigating officer in the Tonu murder case.

The court approved the collection and examination of DNA samples from the two men to compare them with the unidentified male DNA profile recovered from the victim's clothing.

Contacted by The Daily Star, PBI Inspector Tarikul Islam said he had sought the court's approval to obtain DNA samples from the two former army personnel.

However, he declined to disclose any further information about them or the investigation.

Court sources said the two individuals are not currently in police custody.
