Dutch-Bangla Bank has planned to more than double its authorised capital to Tk 35 billion from Tk 15 billion, while its board has also approved the purchase of land in Savar for the expansion of its ongoing data centre project.

The board approved the proposals at a meeting on August 25, according to disclosures published by the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday.

The proposed increase in the authorised capital would give Dutch-Bangla Bank greater flexibility to boost its paid-up capital in the future as its business expands and capital requirements increase.

It is, however, subject to obtaining a no-objection certificate (NOC) from Bangladesh Bank and approval from shareholders.

Dutch-Bangla Bank will seek shareholders' approval at its fifth Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), scheduled for October 15. The record date for participation in the EGM has been set for September 20.

The bank's latest move comes as its financial performance has strengthened significantly in the first half of 2026.

According to its unaudited financial statements, Dutch-Bangla Bank posted a profit of Tk 4.42 billion in January–June this year, up from Tk 1.05 billion in the same period a year earlier.

Its earnings per share (EPS) rose to Tk 4.35 for H1 this year from Tk 1.04 for H1 last year.

The proposed hike in the authorised capital is much higher than the previous expansion. In 2019, DBBL raised its authorised capital from Tk 4 billion to Tk 15 billion on the advice of Bangladesh Bank.

The move comes as the bank continues to invest in infrastructure, including the expansion of its ongoing DEPZ Data Center Project in Savar. While the bank has not disclosed any immediate plan for a rights issue or other fresh share issuance, the higher authorised capital would provide room for future equity mobilisation to support business growth, strengthen capital, and meet regulatory requirements if needed.

Dutch-Bangla Bank's paid-up capital stood at around Tk 10.15 billion as of June 30, 2026, according to stock exchange data.

Meanwhile, the bank plans to acquire 16.60 decimals of land at Baipail in Savar, Dhaka, for Tk 34.86 million, excluding  government registration fees and other related expenses.

The land is expected to facilitate the smooth operation and expansion of the bank's ongoing Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) Data Center Project.

The land acquisition is also subject to Bangladesh Bank's approval.

The bank's sponsors and directors held 83.56 per cent of its shares as of June 30, according to DSE data.
