Gopalganj police took a woman into custody today after her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter was found murdered and her body recovered 17 days later.

The victim is Faria, of Gobra Madhya Para in Gopalganj, said police.

Police recovered the child’s body from a trunk inside a house in Gobra Madhya Para.

Additional SP Muhammad Sarwar Hossain of Gopalganj Police told The Daily Star that during interrogation Setu Begum, 25, confessed to police that she killed her daughter on January 21 with the help of her boyfriend. She locked the child’s body in a trunk and fled with the man after the incident.

Setu had been living at her in-laws’ house with her daughter in Gobra Madhya Para. Her husband, Rubel Sheikh, works in Qatar, said her mother Parvin Akter.

The child’s body has been sent to the Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police said preparations are underway to file a case in connection with the incident.
