A police officer was stabbed and another injured by a group of miscreants while attempting to arrest a listed drug dealer in the Ambagan area of Chattogram city last night.

The injured officer has been identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Mobinul Islam of Double Mooring Police Station.

The incident took place around 8:00pm on Saturday in the Jharna Para area under Double Mooring Police Station.

Additional Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (PR) Aminur Rashid confirmed the incident to The Daily Star.

He said SI Mobinul Islam was attacked while trying to arrest Alamgir, an accused in drug cases. The suspect and his gang attacked police and stabbed the officer during the operation.

The injured officer is currently receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Police have arrested listed drug dealer Alamgir. Drives are underway to arrest the other suspects involved in the attack.
