Treasury bench lawmaker for the Noakhali-1 constituency, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, on Sunday said that the implementation of the proposed budget for the 2026–27 financial year would face major challenges, including a deteriorating law and order situation and money laundering.

Finance minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury proposed the Tk 9,38,000 crore national budget for the 2026-27 financial year on June 11.

Participating in the discussion on the proposed budget in the Jatiya Sangsad session, chaired by speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Khokon said that maintaining law and order would be difficult, leaving thousands of young people unemployed.

He also alleged that no laundered money had been repatriated to Bangladesh since the country's independence, adding that people would be discouraged from transferring money abroad if they felt confident about the safety of their savings at home.

The ruling party lawmaker also criticised the proliferation of commercial banks, saying that the number of banks should be reduced
