After a long wait, “ANNiE”, the first Bangladeshi series selected for the Women in Series section of Germany’s Series Camp Festival, is finally set to stream in Bangladesh.
Directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad and starring Nazifa Tushi in the title role, the miniseries will soon premiere on OTT platform iScreen.
The streaming agreement was signed on Wednesday (July 29) at the Channel i office in the presence of the series’ creators and producers. Among those present were Faridur Reza Sagar, Managing Director of Impress Telefilm and Channel i; director Abdullah Mohammad Saad; producer Ehsanul Haque Babu; co-producers Shihab Nurun Nabi and Tanvir Hossain, among others.
Expressing his excitement, producer Ehsanul Haque Babu said the team was delighted to bring the series to local audiences through iScreen after its successful international festival run.
“After its journey through the Series Camp Festival, we are very happy that Bangladeshi audiences will now be able to watch the series on iScreen. We believe viewers will enjoy a unique experience through ‘ANNiE’, its storytelling, filmmaking and performances,” he said.
Alongside Nazifa Tushi, the series features Yash Rohan, Simon Sadik, Sarika Sabrin, Farhana Mithu and Nazah, among others.
“ANNiE” had its world premiere on June 9 at the Series Camp Festival in Cologne, Germany. Dedicated exclusively to television series, the festival marked the first time a Bangladeshi series had been selected for an international event focused solely on serialised content.
The series has been produced under the banners of Metrovideo, Catalog, Jirel and Audacious Originals by Ehsanul Haque Babu and Ali Afzal Uzzal, with co-producers Shihab Noorun Nabi, Tuhin Tamizul, Tanvir Hossain, Johan Chapelan, Saiful Islam and Raihan Sikder, while Apoorva Bakshi serves as executive producer.
Saad made his feature debut with “Live from Dhaka” in 2016 before gaining international recognition with “Rehana Maryam Noor” (2021), which became the first Bangladeshi film to be selected for the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film was later screened at more than 15 international film festivals worldwide.
