A high-level delegation from the Netherlands on Tuesday held a courtesy meeting with officials of the Chittagong Port Authority to discuss maritime cooperation, sustainable transport and future port development initiatives.

The delegation, led by charge d’affairs of Netherlands embassy in Dhaka Koos Dijkstra, met Commodore Ahmed Amin Abdullah, member for harbour and marine of the port authority, at the CPA headquarters, said a press release.

During the meeting, both sides discussed issues related to port digitalisation, logistics development, green port implementation, shipbuilding, hinterland connectivity expansion and carbon emission reduction.

The discussions also focused on the development of the proposed Laldia Container Terminal and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector between Bangladesh and the Netherlands.

Commodore Amin briefed the delegation on the ongoing expansion, modernisation and capacity enhancement activities at the port and highlighted its strategic role in international trade.

He also sought Dutch cooperation in maritime education, skilled manpower development and advanced training programmes on maritime operations and ship repair.

The Netherlands delegation assured support in technical assistance, knowledge sharing and sustainable infrastructure development in Bangladesh’s port and maritime sectors.

The delegation later attended a presentation on port activities and visited different operational facilities of the port.

During the visit, CPA member for finance Md Mahbub Alam Talukder, additional secretary, member for engineering Commodore Md Mazharul Islam Jewel, among others, were present.
