Train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route resumed around 5:00pm today, seven and a half hours after five coaches of a Dhaka-bound commuter train derailed near Gafargaon Railway Station in Mymensingh.

The derailment occurred around 9:30am at the Shibganj Road level crossing, adjacent to Gafargaon Railway Station, when five coaches, including the front power car of the Dhaka-bound commuter train from Jamalpur, left the tracks just before entering the station, said Md Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Railway Police Station.

The OC said no one was injured in the incident.

Abdullah Al Harun, Mymensingh Railway Station superintendent, said two relief trains from Dhaka and Mymensingh reached the site around noon. After nearly three hours of recovery work, railway workers cleared the derailed coaches, repaired the tracks and restored train movement.

He said a four-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

During the disruption, railway authorities diverted services through alternative routes. The Agnibina Express, Jamalpur Express, Haor Express and Brahmaputra Express operated via the Dhaka-Tongi-Narsingdi-Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj-Gouripur Junction route to minimise passenger inconvenience.
