Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Friday said there is no security threat centring on paying tribute to the Language Martyrs on International Mother Language Day on Saturday.

He shared the information at a press briefing on the security plan for International Mother Language Day at the Central Shaheed Minar on Friday morning.

The DMP commissioner said the Shaheed Minar will be opened to the general public at around 12:40am, after the president, the prime minister, other important state dignitaries and foreign diplomats pay their tributes.

He said a large number of people are expected to gather at the Central Shaheed Minar to honour the Language Movement martyrs, and the DMP has taken multi-layered security measures for the occasion. Alongside law-enforcement agencies, a sufficient number of volunteers will also be deployed.

Noting that several layers of security have been put in place, he said 15,000 police personnel will be deployed. Other law-enforcement agencies will remain on duty and intelligence surveillance will continue.

He requested visitors to use Palashi Mor, Jagannath Hall crossing and Shaheed Minar Road to enter the Shaheed Minar area. After paying tribute, they are asked to leave via Doel Chattar or Chankharpul.

The DMP commissioner also urged people not to carry any sharp objects or flammable materials to the Shaheed Minar.

For security and order, he said several entry-point diversions will be in effect in the University of Dhaka area from the evening onwards.
