National Citizen Party spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Saturday alleged that individuals linked with the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party were involved in many mob-related incidents across the country.

He said that the home minister had promised to stop mob violence from the first day in office, but the reality on the ground showed the opposite.

Asif’s allegations came at an Eid reunion of NCP leaders and activists held at a hotel convention centre in the Kandirpar area of Cumilla city.

He also said that the BNP government had failed to govern effectively and had quickly become unpopular within just three months in office.

He also claimed that the government had failed to manage the administration and the economy and also failed to fulfil the aspirations of the July uprising.

Asif further alleged that since the formation of the BNP government, there had been no improvement in law and order, especially in rape, mob justice and kidnapping cases.

Instead, he said, the situation has worsened in several areas and continued to deteriorate across the country.

‘We are seeing an increase in mob justice. In the last month alone, 84 people were raped, including six children who were raped and killed,’ Asif said.

He added that even after the elected government came to power, such incidents had not decreased or been effectively controlled.

Also criticising rising commodity and fuel prices, Asif Mahmud said that increased electricity and gas prices made life extremely difficult for ordinary people.

Responding to allegations of embezzlement, Asif said that claims that he and NCP chief coordinator Hasnat Abdullah took Tk 25 crore were misleading and baseless.

He added that no personal money was taken and confusion had been created regarding development allocations.
