One more child has died from suspected measles at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the last 24 hours, hospital authorities said.
The deceased is from Rajbari district.
Yesterday, two other children died in suspected measles cases at the hospital.
The information was confirmed to The Daily Star today by RMCH spokesperson Dr Shankar K Biswas.
Quoting a report from the hospital’s paediatrics department, he said 117 patients with measles symptoms are currently admitted to the children’s ward.
Among them, 22 new patients were admitted in the last 24 hours. Most of the newly admitted patients are from Chapainawabganj and Pabna districts, he added.
During the same period, 14 patients recovered and were discharged from the hospital.
Dr Shankar said a special team from the health ministry has been working at the hospital to help prevent further spread of the infection.
The hospital has already prepared a 40-bed ward dedicated to measles patients, while preparations are underway to arrange another separate ward to manage the growing number of cases.
