Bangladesh’s men’s and women’s hockey teams failed to secure spots in the semi-finals of the Under-18 Asia Cup after losing to their respective rivals in their third and final pool matches at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Hockey Stadium in Kakamigahara, Japan, on Wednesday.

The men’s team conceded a 5-2 defeat to Pakistan, while the women’s team suffered a 6-0 thumping to China.


In the men’s game, Awan Abdullah scored two field goals (third and 44th minutes), while Asam Haider converted a penalty stroke in the 39th minute.

Adil added another field goal in the 32nd minute, and Yahya Najeeb scored in the 59th minute for Pakistan. For Bangladesh, Munna Islam scored two goals from penalty corners in the 12th and 35th minutes.

In the women’s match, Chinese captain Jiaxin Guo (48th, 59th) scored a brace from penalty corners, while Yuzheng Zhang (eighth) scored from a penalty corner, Jiaxin Feng (24th) and Wanxin Yu (53rd) scored a field goal each, and TongTong Lu (38th) converted a penalty stroke.

The Bangladesh men’s team earlier suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to China in their Pool B second match after starting their campaign with a 4-2 win over Malaysia in the nine-team fray.

The Bangladesh men’s team finished third in the pool with three points from three games and will play South Korea in the fifth-place deciding match on Friday.

The Bangladesh women’s team earlier suffered a crushing 12-0 defeat to Japan in their first match before beating Chinese Taipei 2-0 in their second match of Pool B.

With Wednesday’s defeat, the women’s team finished third in the pool with three points from three games and will play a fifth-place deciding match against Malaysia today.
