Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has said he would not choose to remake Amitabh Bachchan’s classic Don, as he has no creative regrets about the script and sees no reason to rewrite it.

His remarks have resurfaced after Akhtar revealed that he was recently approached to rewrite songs for Border 2, a sequel to the 1997 hit Border, but he declined, describing the idea as “creative bankruptcy” and saying he was not interested in recreating nostalgia.

In an earlier interview, Akhtar explained that he would only remake one of his own films if he felt there were mistakes he could correct. Since he remains satisfied with Don, he said it did not qualify. He added that he would instead consider revisiting films such as Kaala Patthar, Mashaal and Arjun, where he felt improvements could be made, particularly in the second half.

Farhan Akhtar, who remade Don in 2006 starring Shah Rukh Khan alongside Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor, has previously said he chose the film because its storytelling felt modern and adaptable to a contemporary setting.
