Protests continued for a third consecutive day in Dhaka's Pallabi, with demonstrators demanding maximum punishment for the accused Sohel Rana and others involved in the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter.
Protesters, including students from various schools and colleges, gathered near Ramisa’s home and the Pallabi Police Station.
This was not an ordinary crime, this was a heinous murder, said the protesters, as they called for the accused to be tried through a special tribunal to ensure the highest punishment in the shortest possible time.“We no longer feel our children are safe, whether at home or outside. We have lost trust in the people around us,” said Riya Moni, 22, who joined the protest with her four-year-old daughter.
“This insecurity stems from the deterioration of the law and order situation and the weakness of the administration,” she added.
Sonia Akter Nupur, a resident of Mirpur-10, said, “Open drug dealing and the nuisance caused by drug users have increased alarmingly in the area. Only such people can commit these kinds of heinous crimes against children.”
“As the killer has already confessed to the crime, there should be no scope for legal complications or delays. It must be ensured that the accused cannot escape through legal loopholes,” she added.

Protesters said the arrest of the accused alone was not enough. They called for stronger efforts to remove such criminals from society and urged law enforcement agencies to play a more active role."
Tejgaon Traffic Police ADC Tania Sultana said, "Protesters have blocked different points of Kalshi road since 5:00pm, leading to a traffic congestion in that area."
Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, despite being devastated, expressed gratitude to the demonstrators.
