THE Department of Narcotics Control detained a young man along with 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 9 lakh during a raid on a bus in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga on Saturday night.
The detainee was Abdullah, son of late Arfan Ali, from Shapla Kolipara villageof Jibannagar upazila in the district.
A press release issued by the district DNC office on Saturday night stated that, on a tip-off, a team set up a temporary checkpoint in the Joyrampur area on the Jibannagar-bound highway under Damurhuda police station. The operation was conducted between 6:00pm and 6:40pm.
During the drive, the team intercepted a Jibannagar-bound air-conditioned bus coming from Dhaka.
Upon searching the vehicle, the DNC officials challenged a passenger named Md Abdullah, 31, as his movements appeared suspicious. Following a search of his body and belongings, 3,000 pieces of orange-coloured amphetamine-contained Yaba tablets, weighing around 300 grams, were found inside a shopping bag in his possession.
The contraband items were packed in 15 blue zippered poly-packets, with each containing 200 pieces of the tablets.
DNC Chuadanga deputy director Md Rafiqul Islam filed a case with Damurhuda police station as the plaintiff.
The DNC added that anti-drug operations had been intensified across the district and such drives would continue.
