Bangladesh is set to make a strong impression at the upcoming 17th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), with three local films securing official selections for the festival, which will be held in Australia from August 13 to 23.
According to the organisers, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s “Roid”, Mohammad Touqir Islam’s “Delupi” and Mahde Hasan’s “Balur Nagarite” have been selected for the Best Film from the Subcontinent competition.
The category features films from across South Asia. Alongside the three Bangladeshi entries, the lineup includes Nepal’s “Ek Muthi Badal” and “Goodbye Sisters”, Afghanistan’s “In the Room” and “No Good Men”, and Sri Lanka’s “Spying Stars”.
Bangladesh has the highest number of films competing in the category this year, underscoring the growing international recognition of the country’s film industry.
Now in its 17th edition, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has grown into one of Australia’s leading film festivals. This year’s programme will showcase more than 75 films in 31 languages.
A special highlight of this year’s festival will be the 25th anniversary celebration of the Bollywood classic “Lagaan”, scheduled for July 10. Actor and producer Aamir Khan, who starred in the film, has already arrived in Melbourne to attend the event, accompanied by his wife, Gauri Spratt.
