The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in its election manifesto, pledged to present an ‘accurate’ history of the Liberation War of 1971 to students.

Unveiling the manifesto ahead of the Jatiya Sangsad elections, the party also promised to adopt and implement programmes to ‘firmly’ establish equality, human dignity, and social justice -- the ideals and objectives of the Liberation War -- within the state and national life.

Jamaat amir Shafiqur Rahman and secretary general Mia Golam Parwar unveiled the document at a city hotel on Wednesday.

The Jamaat, along with its auxiliary forces Al-Badr and Al-Shams, actively collaborated with the Pakistan occupation forces, to prevent the emergence of independent Bangladesh in the 1971 liberation war.

Speaking at the event, Shafiqur Rahman said that the 1971 Liberation War and the July 2024 uprising would form the foundation of the country’s history.

‘Both events would be given priority in the writing of the national history,’ he said.

The Jamaat election manifesto also revealed a plan to institutionalise transparency and accountability in the liberation war affairs ministry.

Additionally, the party pledged to provide the July uprising martyrs’ families and participants with monthly grants and allowances, housing, and rehabilitation, and continued financial support for medical issues.
