The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved proposals to import 40,000 tonnes of granular urea from Saudi Arabia, and 70,000 tonnes of DAP and TSP fertilisers from Morocco to ensure adequate supplies for farmers.

The approval came at a meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

Under the first proposal, the committee approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea from SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The procurement cost of the urea will be Tk 2.09 billion (Tk 209.06 crore), with the price fixed at $421.67 per tonne.

The meeting also approved a proposal to import 40,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser from OCP Nutricrops SA of Morocco under government-to-government arrangement as per an agreement between the Moroccan company and Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

The third lot of DAP fertiliser will cost Tk 4.42 billion (Tk 441.91 crore), with the price fixed at $891.67 per tonne.

The CCGP also approved the import of 30,000 tonnes of triple super phosphate (TSP) fertiliser from OCP Nutricrops SA under the same G-to-G agreement.

The fourth lot of TSP fertiliser will cost Tk 2.52 billion (Tk 251.76 crore), with the price fixed at $677.33 per tonne.

The fertiliser import proposals were placed by the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the government’s efforts to maintain adequate stocks for agricultural production.
