Disaster management and relief minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Monday urged US Ambassador Brent T Christensen in Dhaka for stronger support from the United States for the repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.
The issue of Rohingya repatriation featured prominently during a meeting between the minister and the US envoy at the secretariat.
During the meeting, the minister also stressed the need for joint research on emerging disaster risks and effective post-disaster response mechanisms, said a press release.
Ambassador Christensen pledged continued US engagement with Bangladesh in sustainable development, disaster risk reduction, and post-earthquake search and rescue operations.
State minister for disaster management and relief M Iqbal Hossain and ministry secretary Saidur Rahman Khan attended the meeting.
