Chattogram Metropolitan Police has arrested a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, banned student outfit of Awami League, in the city’s Laldighi Par area Wednesday night.
The arrested BCL leader Kayed-e-Azam Bacchu is an active organiser of Lohagara upazila unit and was allegedly involved in attack on protesting student and masses during July uprising in 2024.
Officer-in-charge of Kotowali police station Aftab Uddin said they have arrested Azam from AL’s south district office in Laldhigi Par area where Azam along with some others assembled there to resume activities of AL and BCL.
Police said at least three cases have been pending with Lohagara thana of the district against Azam.
Deployment of increased number of law enforcement agencies and vigilance have been beefed up in surrounding areas of AL’s south district unit office in Laldighi Par under Kotowali thana to foil any attempt to launch activities of banned organisations-AL and BCL, police said.
