Police arrested Samir Hossain Mishu, former treasurer of the Bogura chapter of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and a leader of the pro-Awami League physicians' platform Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (Swachip), from a restaurant in the district's Sherpur upazila last night.
Mishu, 58, was arrested around 11:00pm from Mocktail Island hotel, said Officers-in-Charge of Sherpur and Bogura Sadar police stations SM Moinuddin and Ibrahim Ali respectively.
The OCs said the arrest was made in connection with a case filed with Sadar Police Station following the July 2024 mass uprising.
Speaking to The Daily Star, OC Ibrahim said Mishu was arrested from the hotel in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act by local National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Araf in 2024.
Sources said he was attending a birthday party as a guest at the hotel when he was arrested.
He will be produced before a court today, police said.
A resident of the Jaleshwaritala area of Bogura town, Mishu had long been known locally for providing medical treatment to low-income patients.
