Two young men were killed and another seriously injured after a bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh on Eid night.
The accident occurred around 1:00am on Wednesday night in the Alalpur area along the Mymensingh–Sherpur highway in Sadar upazila.
According to the police and local sources, a passenger bus operated by Shyamoli Bangla Paribahan was travelling to Haluaghat from Dhaka when it collided head-on with a CNG autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction near Alalpur.
The impact left the autorickshaw mangled, killing two passengers on the spot. Another passenger sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital by local residents.
Sub-Inspector Ripon of Kotwali Model Police Station said police rushed to the scene after receiving the report and worked to ease traffic congestion on the highway.
‘The situation is now under control. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed,’ he said, adding that both victims were male and believed to be between 30 and 35 years old.
The police said legal proceedings over the incident are under way.
