The BNP acting secretary general made the remarks on Wednesday morning after paying tribute at the graves of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and the party’s late chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, bdnews24.com reports.
He said, “If a patriotic person is in power, he will put the interests of the people first. You have seen that inflation fell in August. The head of government is intervening in the market and trying to keep commodity prices stable while ensuring that people should be able to afford essential commodities and food items. Now the rainy season has ended and autumn has arrived… During this period, the prices of goods, food items, vegetables, rice, lentils and salt usually rise.”
“But because of this government’s strict intervention, the prices of goods, particularly essential food items, have not increased significantly. As a result, inflation fell considerably in August.”
Referring to the gas crisis, the prime minister’s political advisor said, “There is a gas crunch and an energy crisis in the country. This is an international crisis, a global crisis. No single country can resolve this crisis until the war between the United States and Iran ends.”
“Because the route through the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf is the most important route for oil shipments and ship traffic is currently suspended there.”
He said, “The prime minister is making continuous efforts to deal with the country’s energy crisis. He is arranging to bring gas from eastern countries, namely Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia.”
“You know that gas-carrying cargo vessels are already arriving, and the normal flow of gas has also been disrupted due to a technical glitch at the floating terminal in the deep sea off Moheshkhali. But that problem has been fixed, and the flow is gradually returning to normal.”
Rizvi said, “Because the BNP government or a BNP-led coalition government runs the state with the interests, suffering, hardship and pain of the people in mind, the prime minister is working day and night to address the current gas crisis. Another Tk 400 billion has been allocated for importing gas to tackle the crisis.”
“Despite the crisis in gas and energy, the government has also taken measures in various areas and sectors to improve people’s financial well-being and increase their incomes.”
Rizvi also highlighted measures taken by the government for public welfare, including expanding the coverage of social safety-net programmes.
Rizvi, along with party leaders and activists led by the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal’s President Afroza Abbas and General Secretary Sultana Ahmed, visited the graves of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and paid tribute to mark the 48th founding anniversary of BNP’s women's organisation.
Ziaur Rahman founded the Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal on Sept 9, 1978, with the aim of empowering women.
