Winona Ryder is set to appear as a guest star in Season 3 of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday”, marking a high-profile reunion with Jenna Ortega and director Tim Burton.
The casting creates a Beetlejuice reunion on screen. Ortega previously played Ryder’s daughter in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, while Burton — a longtime collaborator of Ryder — directed the film and continues to serve as director and executive producer on “Wednesday”. Series creators Al Gough and Miles Millar also penned the screenplay for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
In a statement, Burton expressed enthusiasm about Ryder joining the show, calling her a dear friend and saying she fits seamlessly into the world of “Wednesday”.
Ryder’s role in the upcoming season is being kept under wraps. The project marks a swift return to Netflix for the actor, who recently concluded her run in the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things”, a series she has been part of since 2016.
Gough and Millar praised Ryder’s legacy in portraying unconventional characters and highlighted her creative partnership with Burton as one that has shaped some of cinema’s most memorable roles. They added that they were excited to welcome her to Nevermore Academy.
Ryder is among the latest additions to the Season 3 cast, following the announcement that Eva Green will portray Ophelia, the sister of Morticia Addams.
The two-time Oscar nominee — recognised for “The Age of Innocence” and “Little Women” — previously collaborated with Burton on “Edward Scissorhands” and the animated film “Frankenweenie”. Her television credits also include “The Plot Against America” and “Show Me a Hero”.
The series, based on characters created by Charles Addams, stars Jenna Ortega in the title role alongside Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday and others. MGM Television produces the show, with Gough, Millar and Burton serving as executive producers.
Season 2 of “Wednesday" was released in two parts in August and September 2025 and became one of Netflix’s most-watched English-language series. The first season remains the platform’s most-watched English-language TV season to date.
