Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, is being celebrated across the country today (21 March) with much enthusiasm and religious fervour.
The main congregation was held at the Jatiya Eidgah in the capital at 8:30am at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises.

The Eid prayers were led by Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Following the two rakats of wajib prayers, the khutba was delivered, after which devotees exchanged greetings by embracing one another.
The country’s largest Eid congregation took place at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj amid tight security.

A special munajat was offered after the prayers, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of Bangladesh, as well as the welfare of its people and the Muslim Ummah.
Main thoroughfares and road islands were adorned with the national flag and banners bearing “Eid Mubarak” in Bangla and Arabic.

Television channels, including BTV, alongside Bangladesh Betar and private radio stations, are airing special programmes marking the occasion. Improved meals were served at government hospitals, children’s homes, vagrant welfare centres and jails.
Meanwhile, President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman issued separate messages extending Eid greetings to the people.

Law enforcement agencies, including police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), took additional security measures across the country to avert any untoward incidents.
