World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2025, taking place from November 18–24 under the theme ‘Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future, began at Bangladesh Medical University on Thursday.
BMU’s microbiology and immunology department, in collaboration with public health and informatics, paediatrics, pharmacology departments and the World Health Organization, organised rally, discussion, leaflet distribution and awareness programmes to mark the week.
BMU vice-chancellor Professor Md Shahinul Alam was the chief guest at the events, said a press release.
BMU registrar Professor Md Nazrul Islam moderated the brief gathering, while microbiology and immunology department chairman, Professor Abu Naser Ibne Sattar, delivered welcome speech. Also speaking were BMU’s pro-vice-chancellor for administration Professor Md Abul Kalam Azad, pro-vice-chancellor for research and development Professor Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader, paediatric faculty dean Professor Md Atiar Rahman, Professor M Abu Hena Chowdhury, and Murad Sultan of the WHO.
