Sukumar’s “Pushpa 2: The Rule”, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, was released in Japan on January 16 this year under the title “Pushpa Kunrin”, following its 2024 release in India. The actors actively promoted the film in Japan, and although it opened slowly, it gradually gained popularity and is now among the top 10 highest-earning Indian films in the country.
According to trade website Sacnilk, the film earned about ¥105 million (around ₹6.06 crore) within 14 days of its release in Japan. With this, it surpassed Aamir Khan’s “Dhoom 3”, which had collected ¥104.5 million, securing the 10th position. Reports suggest that positive word of mouth in cities such as Tokyo and Osaka helped boost its performance. However, despite this achievement, the film still remains far from the top ranks and is unlikely to reach the number-one spot.

Currently, the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan is “RRR”, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, with an impressive collection of ¥2.42 billion (about ₹139.79 crore), making it the only Indian film to cross the ¥2 billion mark there. Other films in the top five include Rajinikanth’s “Muthu” (¥405 million), Prabhas’ “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (¥305 million), Aamir Khan’s “3 Idiots” (¥170 million), and Sridevi’s “English Vinglish” (¥160 million). To move up to ninth place, “Pushpa 2” will next need to overtake Rajinikanth’s “Enthiran”, which earned ¥109.6 million in Japan.
