The 11-party alliance, led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, on Thursday announced a month-long programme to mark the second anniversary of the July Uprising.
The announcement was made by the alliance coordinator and Jamaat assistant secretary general, Hamidur Rahman Azad, at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Moghbazar of Dhaka following a meeting of the alliance’s central steering committee.
The programmes will begin with seminars at district and city levels across the country from July 1 to July 15, demanding implementation of the July Charter verdict. Graffiti campaigns and protest programmes will also be held in districts and cities outside Dhaka on July 4.
On July 6, the alliance will form a human chain in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the presence of family members of those killed during the July Uprising and will submit a memorandum to the speaker.
A national seminar is scheduled for July 8.
The alliance will hold divisional rallies in Mymensingh on June 27, Rangpur on July 11, Barishal on July 18 and Sylhet on July 25. A discussion meeting on the role of women in the July Uprising will be held in Dhaka on July 20.
A photography exhibition on the July Uprising and memorial discussion meetings will be organised in Dhaka on July 23, 24 and 25.
Prayer programmes will be held at mosques and temples across the country on July 31.
The month-long observance will conclude on August 5 with rallies in Dhaka and other districts, cities and upazilas marking the anniversary of the July Uprising.
