Lawmakers on Monday called for urgent improvements in healthcare, road communication and gas supply in their constituencies, citing inadequate public services and growing hardship for residents.
The demands were raised in Jatiya Sangsad during a session chaired by deputy speaker Kayser Kamal, with members speaking on matters of public importance.
Bogura-1 lawmaker Kazi Rafiqul Islam urged the health minister to upgrade the 50-bed Sonatola Upazila Health Complex to a 100-bed facility to cope with the rising number of patients.
Madaripur-2 lawmaker Jahander Ali Miha said that the 100-bed hospital in his constituency should be expanded to 250 beds to meet increasing demand.
Naogaon-6 lawmaker SK Md Rejaul Islam said that two hospitals in his constituency were struggling due to shortages of physicians, medicines and pathology services.
Chattogram-1 lawmaker Nurul Amin said that about 14 lakh people in Mirersarai upazila depended on a single hospital and called for expanded facilities.
Lakshmipur-2 lawmaker Abul Khair Bhuiyan described the 50-bed upazila health complex in his area as dilapidated and lacking adequate accommodation for doctors. He urged the minister to upgrade it to a 100-bed facility.
Jaipurhat-1 lawmaker Fazlur Rahman Sayed demanded the upgradation of the 250-bed district hospital to a 500-bed facility. He also called for earthen roads in his constituency to be converted into concrete roads.
Beyond healthcare, several lawmakers highlighted other pressing local issues.
Satkhira-4 lawmaker GM Nazrul Islam called on the home minister to curb robbery in the Sundarbans.
Lalmonirhat-2 lawmaker Rokon Uddin Babul stressed the need for improved road communication in Kaliganj upazila to facilitate agricultural trade.
Kurigram-1 lawmaker Anwarul Islam demanded the construction of a bridge over the Nageshwari River and the establishment of a fire service station in Bhurungamari upazila.
Dhaka-4 lawmaker Syed Joynul Abedin raised concerns over an acute gas crisis in his constituency, alleging that consumers had been paying bills despite not receiving gas for more than a year.
Khulna-4 lawmaker SK Azizul Baree also demanded improved road communication in his constituency to strengthen connectivity between Dhaka and the southwestern district.
