Bangladesh women’s hockey team had to remain content with runners-up place in the Asian Games Qualifiers tournament as they lost to Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the final at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Wednesday.

Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Chiu Wang (17th), I-Hsuan Mao (32nd) and Yu-Ting Huang (40th) each scored field goal after Bangladesh took an early lead with captain Orpita Pal scoring from the penalty corner in the eighth minute.


The debutants began the eight-team tournament with a 5-5 draw against Chinese Taipei in the Pool A opener and reached the semi-finals as pool champions after beating Hong Kong 2-1 and Uzbekistan 3-2.

Zahid Hossain Raju’ charges beat Singapore 3-1 in the semi-final, which also confirmed their place in the Asian Games 2026.

As the top-four teams will advance to the Asian Games 2026, Pool B champions Indonesia also booked their spot to join hosts Japan and other auto-qualified teams – China, India, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand.

Asian Games will be held at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Japan from September 13 to October 3, 2026.
