The bodies of two Bangladeshis killed in a fire at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia’s Far Eastern Amur Region have been brought back to Bangladesh.

The victims are Zakir Hossain of Bhairab in Kishoreganj and Alal Hossain Raju from Gangni, Meherpur.

The bodies were sent from Moscow on Tuesday aboard a Turkish Airlines flight, according to Mizanur Rahman, first secretary (labour) at the Bangladesh embassy in Moscow.

The flight landed at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport at 5:10am on Wednesday.

The victims’ relatives received the bodies at the airport, said Md Shahidul Islam, deputy assistant director of the Expatriates’ Welfare Desk there.

“After the bodies arrived, their relatives received them and took them away. The Wage Earners’ Welfare Board provided each family with a cheque for Tk 35,000 to cover burial and ambulance expenses,” he told bdnews24.com.

At least 15 people from different countries were killed in the Aug 25 fire at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex.

The two Bangladeshis died after suffering burns in an explosion while gas pipeline testing was under way inside LLC Sinopec Engineering Group Company.

Their bodies were sent to Bangladesh after legal formalities were completed in Russia.
