At least 136 people were killed and 302 others were injured in road accidents across the country during the public holidays marking the recently concluded Eid-ul-Azha.
According to Bangladesh Road Transport Authority data, at least 126 people were killed and 226 others were injured in road accidents across the country in May 25-30.
At least 10 people were killed and 76 others were injured in road accidents in six districts on Sunday.
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest religious festivals of Muslims, was celebrated across Bangladesh with due religious fervour and festivity on May 28. The government declared a seven-day public holiday from May 25 to May 31 on the occasion.
The daily data on road accidents on roads and highways, published on the BRTA web site, show that between May 25 and May 30, a total of 126 people were killed and 226 others were injured in 108 road accidents.
As per the statistics, the highest, 35, were killed on May 25 and the highest, 72, were injured on the Eid day.

The deceased are Sohel, 30, son of Tajul Islam of Shahi Pratapvillage at sadar upazila in Narsingdi and a bus driver, and his assistant, Emam, 20, the police said.
Sherpur highway police station officer-in-charge Abu Taher Dewan said that Sohel and Emam were repairing their Sylhet-bound bus after parking it along the highway in Tajpur Bazar area.
‘At that time, another Sylhet-bound bus hit the parked bus from behind,’ he said, adding that both buses were seized and legal action was under way.
He added that processes to hand over the bodies to their relatives without autopsy were under way.
New Age correspondent in Kushtia reported that an unidentified person died on the spot and 55 others were injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Kushtia–Ishwardi highway in Talbaria area of Mirpur upazila in the district at about 12:30pm.
Kushtia highway police officer-in-charge Abu Obayed said that a Narail Express bus carrying army trainees and travelling from Bogura Cantonment to Khulna Cantonment collided head-on with a Kushtia-bound Himel Shimanto Paribahan bus coming from Pabna.
Locals rushed the injured to Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital for treatment, he said, adding that investigation was going on in this regard.
Three passengers, including a mother and her daughter, of a battery-powered auto-rickshaw died on the spot and seven others injured when a bus hit the auto-rickshaw on the Netrakona-Mymensingh highway at the Challisha Bypass crossing in Challisha area at sadar upazila under Netrakona district at about 11:30am, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reports.
The deceased are Nurjahan, 50, wife of Ainul Haque, a resident of Amli Keshabpur village at Rouha union of the upazila, his daughter Smriti Akhter, 18, and a teenager named Iti, 15.
Locals rushed the injured to Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital and later all of them were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
District police spokesperson and additional superintendent of police (Special Branch) Hafizul Islam confirmed the incident.
The BSS also reports that a woman died on the spot and 12 passengers more were injured after a bus on the Dhaka-Gaibandha route overturned into a roadside ditch on the Palashbari-Gaibandha Road in Thutiapukur area in Gaibandha district in the morning.
The deceased is Rikta Khatun, 27, wife of Azizal Haque of the Sahar Bazar area under Gaibandha sadar upazila.
Firefighters recovered the body and took the injured to Gaibandha Sadar General Hospital, from where two of them were later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Palashbari police station officer-in-charge Mojammel Haque confirmed the incident.
A Secondary School Certification examinee was killed and another youth was injured after a truck struck a motorcycle carrying them from behind on the Chandpur–Raipur road in Badamtali area of Islampur Gachtala at Chandpur sadar upazila at about 1.30pm, the BSS also reports.
The deceased is Md Joha, 17, son of Miraj Saleh Uddin Taslim of Islampur Gachtala Pathan Bari at Shahrasti upazila of the district.
Locals rushed Joha and Sajjil, the injured to Chandpur Government General Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared Joha dead.
Chandpur Sadar Model police station inspector (investigation) Md Mintu Dutta said that the truck fled the scene and the body would be handed over to the family following autopsy and other legal formalities.
The BSS also reports that a man died on the spot and another was injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a motorcycle on West Bhuapur New Bypass Road under Bhuapur upazila in Tangail at about 1:00pm.
The deceased is Suruj Akand, 45, son of Kalu Akand of West Bhuapur village of the upazila.
The injured was taken to Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex.
Confirming the matter, Bhuapur police station officer-in-charge Sabbir Rahman said that they brought the body to the station and it would be handed over to his family after legal procedures.
A hospital employee died on the spot after being run over by a Boogdad Paribahan bus while trying to overtake another bus on the Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway at Toragarh at Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur at about 8:00am, the United News of Bangladesh reports.
The deceased is Billal Hossain, 48, a security guard at Doctors City Scan Hospital at Hajiganj and son of the late Saheb Ali Bhuiyan of Muragaon village at Shahrasti upazila of the district.
Witnesses said that after the incident, the drivers and supervisors of both buses fled the scene, leaving the vehicles behind.
Hajiganj police station officer-in-charge Abdul Mannan said they seized both the vehicles.
